Amenorrhea (absent period) hypothyroidism

Amenorrhea (absent period) hypothyroidism

Postby oceana0202 » Sun Mar 14, 2010

Hi,
I've written to Hethir on the "Amenorrhea" topic previously about having an absent period fro over 6 years now. I have had lots of different test done over the years and finally someone has realized that my T3 & T4 levels are low. I'm now taking a thyroid medication from a compounding pharmacy. I was taking vitex and black cohosh tincture daily - 40 drops, prior for 4 months and didn't have any luck. Now I'm taking the thyroid medication and the vitex and black cohosh, along with some other misc vitamins. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and having lots of faith!!! My husband and are so looking forward to being parents - I can't wait till I can actually get my period back and conceive an angel.

Any one else out there dealing with similar issues, I'd love to talk, get some feedback on what you're doing...

Thanks!

Hi,

Now that a month has gone by I was wondering how the combination of the medication and the herbs you are taking is working for you?

Have a great day,

Dalene

Hi Dalene,
I would love to say that I’ve gotten my period, or better yet, say that I’m pregnant but unfortunately not .
As I mentioned previously I have been taking:
• Thyroid 60mg: 1 cap 30 mins before food in the morning
• Multi-Nutrient: 2 caps 2x day with food
• Zinc: 20 mg per day
• MagnaCalm: 1 scoop in warm water before bed
• Chaste Tree Berry: 40 drops per day
• Black Cohosh: 40 drops 2x per day
• Liver Life: 10 drops 2x day, increase by 3 drops per day (8 weeks, leveling at 2 dropperfuls 2x day)
All of the above has been advised from a ND I’ve been working with for the last 5 months. It’s been a little difficult bc we both live in separate states… FL is not the best about alternative medicine.

I have had recent blood work done in the last month, showing a low thyroid, low progesterone and low estrogen. My Ob/Gyn thinks this all has to do with my Pituitary function.

I also recently downloaded a mind body meditation called CirclenBloom – I’m on day 7. I was hesitant at first bc I wasn’t sure where to do start since I haven’t had a period in so long, so I just waited till I felt it was right and went with it. I have to say I'm really enjoying it. I look forward to it at the end of the day. It helps relax my body & mind before sleep and also the giuded imagery & meditation is amazing.

So in light of all of the above…I’m not really sure where I am? :?:

That is good you are working with a Naturopath. It is always best to work with someone who can monitor your progress or adjust what you may need.

I just wanted to mention we are now carrying a thyroid support supplement for women. You may want to look over the ingredients and see what your doctor thinks. I am not a medical doctor so I cannot say how this product may react to your thyroid medication.

ThyroFem Glandular Support
A glandular-free formula providing key nutrients to support the thyroid.

•Zinc, with vitamins E and A function together in the manufacture of thyroid hormone.
•Selected B vitamins and Vitamin C are also necessary for normal thyroid hormone manufacture.
•Zinc, copper and selenium are required cofactors for normal blood levels of thyroid hormones and normalization of thyroid activity.
•Thyroid hormones are made from iodine and tyrosine.
•Ashwagandha and rhodiola create a balanced polyglandular support of the thyroid gland in concert with the rest of the endocrine system.*
Each vegetarian suitable capsule includes: Vitamin C (calcium ascorbate), Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol succinate), Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin), Iodine (from kelp), Zinc (picolinate), Copper (as amino acid chelate), Selenium (as L-selenomethionine), L Tyrosine, Ashwagandha root ext (1% alkaloids, 1.5% withanolides), Rhodiola root ext (3% rosavins, 1% salidroside).

State by stat laws are different for Naturopaths, it does make it difficult to choose the kind of heatlh care you would like to receive.

Hi Dalene, thank you for letting me know. Btw, what does the "CH" behind your name mean?

Hi, so I’m just checking in with an update…
Unfortunately, nothing is happening :( my ND has recently up’d my Armor to 30mg 2x a day and I’m taking maca drops 15 2x a day, homeopathic black cohosh drops 10 x a day. I’ve also been doing kinesiology to check in with my spirit and body to move some stuck energy. This (lack of period and infertility) has been going on for so long, it’s so hard to stay positive. Anyone else dealing with loss of period & infertility due to hypothyroidism and whatever else may be going on? Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of the ocean all by myself…

I am not sure if anyone else on here has hypothyroidism, but I saw a post on the mothering.com forum in the infertility section about a woman who does. You may want to check in there as well. Thanks for letting us know your update.

Thanks Dalene, would you happen to have the link?
Also, do you have any other suggestions? I feel like there has to be a missing link. I have totally overhauled by diet (no gluten, diary, protein shakes with greens every morning, organics, whole foods), taking my supplements, doing spiritual/energy work. I'm doing everything as naturally as possible, aside from the compounded Armor, but that too is as natural as one can get taking a prescription.

Thank you again for your ongoing support!

ooopps it is in the TTC thread, not infertility: http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=1261202

You know it is hard to say what else may be going on. You may want to learn about our Natural Fertility Consultations.
