Hethir or Dalene, would you guys recommend one taking black seed while taking other herbs? I've heard a great deal about black seed being an excellent herb overall, and it has properties in it to level out the blood sugar and balance womens hormones. However I've never seen any recommended dosages, or anything giving it the ok to use with other herbs.
I have only heard of black seed oil too. Never heard of the actual herb. But after doing a little research this is what I found : "This small but incredibly healing herb is known throughout the world by many names such as black cumin, kalonji, blackseed, swartzcummel, Nigella sativa, fennel flower, habbat al barakah, sinouj, black caraway and habba sawdah." ... "Black Seed (Nigella sativa) is one the most revered medicinal seeds in history." http://www.blackseedherb.com/cgi-bin/item/10038
{Nigella Sativa} Black seed/Black cumin comes in all forms. It is very popular here in the middle east and can be found in a variety of foods- baked in breads, salads, little finger foods. I've had the seeds (which are a little bigger than sesame seeds and a little harder), I've used it in salad. The oil is also available and is very strong - depending on the potency it can burn your throat. Here, because raw honey is so popular, one can go to any herbal store or honey store and the employee will mix a jar of honey and black seed seeds for you. It's recommended that one eats a teaspoon of this honey everyday. I don't know if that would be appropriate for one with PCOS which is why I've never tried it in that form. I read a book about 4 years ago- can't remember the name - that gave a list of ways to take black seed for different ailments. If I find out the name I'll be sure to post it.
