Evening Primrose

Postby Kiera » Mon Jun 15, 2009

Hi Hethir or Darlene,

I taking Baby and Me Vitamins, Omega 3, Maca and Vitex. I have been taking the Vitex since April to start ovulation and have not ovulated as of this date. I know it takes about 3 to 6 months to work. I have been reading the Evening Primrose to start your cervical mucus. I am thinking about ordering the Evening Primrose. Can you give instructions on how to use this product even though I have not started ovulating? Or would you suggest that I would have to start ovulating first before taking the Evening Primrose? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Evening Primrose can be used to help increase cervical mucous by taking 1500 - 3000 mg once daily from your period till ovulation. What are you using to tell when you are or are not ovulating?
Best wishes,

Hi Hethir,

I am not using anything to let me know if I am ovulating. I thought by using the vitex it would bring back ovulation. I am been using the vitex since April 2009 and that is three months. Do you suggest to wait until I ovulate to start taking the Evening Primrose or can I start taking Evening Primrose now. Do you have any other suggestions? I do appreciate your help.

Kiera,

I too am on Vitex and yes, it does usually take 3-6 months to see the full affects. Vitex helps regulate your cycles (which includes regulating your ovulation) Just because you haven't ovulated yet does not mean its not working. I have heard you can have a period without ovulating, so hang in there !

When I first started taking it, it took the full 6 months but my cycles became regular at 31 days. The amount of time it takes to regulate my cycles has shortened each time I took it....this time around it was only 3 months and it gave me a cycle. I would continue to use it and I know you'll see results very soon. You can start tracking ovulation by BBT, and watching out for ovulation signs such as cervix position, cervical mucus changes, and ovulation pains (such as sore ovaries, twinging, etc)

EPO does help with CM as Hethir said, and it also has many other health benefits, including being helpful to your heart, reducing plaque in your arteries, helping with PMS, etc. I started taking it regularly after my period and I have noticed a difference in CM, so it is a great thing to take while TTC.

Hi Fellow_cyster,

Thank you very much for your insight about the Vitex. So when you stated, "I started taking it regularly after my period", do you mean after your period went off or during your period when you started starting Evening Primrose? Wouldn't you have to know when you started ovulating first before you started taking the Evening Primrose? Hethir stated to take Evening Primrose, "daily from your period till ovulation". But I have not ovulated yet. I appreciate any suggestions you give me.

Yea its a tough call, especially for those of us who do not ovulate.

I was taking it on & off for the past 2 months. Then when I got a cycle I took it everyday as you're supposed to take it up until ovulation.

Since I have yet to find out if I ovulated, as my cycle is not quite regular yet, I'm continuing to take it. From what I've read it will not hurt you to take it longer than during the first part of your cycle. EPO has many other benefits other than relating to ovulation and cervical mucus. It also helps with your heart and arteries which is another reason I take it.

I can tell you once my cycle regulates and I'm ovulating every month (from the Vitex) I will only take it from CD1 until I ovulate, to help my CM because PCOS ruins that as well !!

HOpe this helps !!
