Interview with Elizabeth Willett & Charlene Lincoln of The FertilityHour

As Senior Herbalist with Natural Fertility Info, I am very thankful to have been asked to speak with Charlene Lincoln, the host of The FertilityHour and Acupuncturist in the San Francisco bay area who herself has overcome infertility. We talked about the infertility journey being riddled with emotions and how to best be prepared when they rear their heads.

What I’ve found many don’t/forget/choose not to acknowledge is that there is an emotional connection, a mind-body connection to fertility.

As much as we work to heal physically, if our emotions/minds are stuck, healing may not be as noticeable or as much as we want it to be… and can actually hold us back! These stuck emotions are “stress”!

Studies repeatedly confirm that stress has a negative impact on our fertility. And, of course, it’s also widely accepted that infertility causes extremely high levels of stress, creating a negative loop that is difficult to remedy on one’s own.

Thankfully the power of the mind in the mind-body connection, and in health and healing is truly astounding!

Mind and body therapies (sometimes referred to cognitive-behavioral therapies) are techniques used to address both the health of the mind and body through psychological, social, behavioral and spiritual approaches. They include various practices that invite the participant to slow down, be calm, breathe deeply, sit quietly, log off from stimulus, observe the body, thoughts and feelings, or channel/change their thoughts from negative to positive.

If anyone is struggling, like so many are, with the emotions of their fertility journey, my hope is that I convince you to support your emotional being, your emotional self, and to offer helpful easy, practical, proven and effective tips for your stress-management tool kit.

It is important to be mindful always, every day, particularly when on this infertility journey and yearning so much to heal!

Dr. Traxler is a University-trained obstetrician/gynecologist, working with patients in Minnesota for over 20 years. She is a professional medical writer; having authored multiple books on pregnancy and childbirth; textbooks and coursework for medical students and other healthcare providers; and has written over 1000 articles on medical, health, and wellness topics.  Dr. Traxler attended the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences and University of Minnesota Medical School,  earning a degree in biochemistry with summa cum laude honors in 1981,  and receiving her Medical Doctorate degree (MD) in 1986.
