What is the best time of day to drink my Radical Smoothie?
The optimal time to enjoy your Radical Smoothie is as your first meal of the day. The reasoning behind this is two-fold.
First, after a night’s sleep, your body is slightly dehydrated. Radical Fertility Smoothies are very hiydrating and can help refill your body’s water levels.
Also, starting your day with a Radical Smoothie allows you to fuel your body with an abundance of exceptional nutrition right from the start. This sets a positive tone for your eating habits throughout the day.
Can I drink more than one Radical Smoothie per day?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to enjoy more than one Radical Smoothie per day if you wish. In fact, some of my clients find it helpful to have two smoothies each day. They will then have a vegetable-rich dinner. This approach helps to ensure that they’re consistently nourishing their bodies with the essential nutrients vital for optimal fertility. However, remember that balance and variety in your diet are key.
Will drinking these types of smoothies make me go to the bathroom a lot or upset my stomach?
Incorporating these nutrient-rich smoothies into your diet will improve digestion. They’re high in fiber, which aids in healthy bowel movements and overall digestive health. However, any big change in your diet, especially one that adds fiber, may at first cause a change in bowel frequency or consistency. This is a normal part of the process as your body adjusts to the new diet.
Some people may get gas or bloating at first when adding these smoothies to their diet. This is due to the extra fiber. These symptoms should reduce over time as your digestive system adapts.
I started the Radical Smoothies and have gas, is this normal?
Yes, it’s quite normal to experience a bit of gas when you first start incorporating the Radical Smoothies into your diet. The high fiber content in the smoothies from ingredients like flaxseeds and kale, can cause your body to produce more gas as your digestive system adapts to these new foods. It’s a good thing and worth the transition.
This is a temporary phase and your body should adjust in a week or two as it gets used to the increased fiber intake. To help ease these symptoms, you can try adding the smoothies to your diet more slowly. Start with small amounts and increase the portion size slowly.
I have PCOS and insulin resistance, can I drink Radical Smoothies?
Short answer is yes. There are many misconceptions when it comes to fruit and insulin resistance. Excessive fat is the cause for insulin resistance. Eating a nourishing diet excludes excessive “bad” fats and includes healthy fats. This can make the body insulin sensitive again, rather quickly.
To learn more about eating for PCOS support, watch for my soon to publish books, Radical Nourishment and The HormoneWise Diet. They cover nutrition for insulin resistance in detail and include Radical Smoothies as a daily meal.
I have hypothyroidism, can I drink Radical Smoothies? Should I be concerned about the cruciferous greens?
Yes, you can definitely drink Radical Smoothies even if you have hypothyroidism. Some people worry about eating cruciferous vegetables, like kale.
This can be greatly reduced if you take iodine at a different time from your cruciferous vegetables. Lack of iodine is a major cause of hypothyroidism. It should be in your daily diet if you have hypothyroidism. This is true whether you eat Radical Smoothies or not.
Sea vegetables, such as kelp, sea moss and nori, are excellent sources of iodine.
Can men drink these smoothies as well?
Absolutely, men can and should drink these smoothies too! Radical Smoothies were designed for both female and male fertility.
The nutrient-rich ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and superfoods, provide a wide array of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These support overall health and wellbeing for everyone, regardless of gender.
Many of the nutrients found in these smoothies, such as the omega-3 fatty acids from flax seeds and the variety of vitamins from the fruits and veggies, help support sperm health and boost male fertility.
So, not only can men enjoy these smoothies, but they may also find them to be a valuable addition to their own health and wellness routines.
Can I prepare these smoothies ahead of time for the week?
Indeed, the freshness and quality of your Radical Smoothies is paramount, and it’s true that making them on the day you plan to consume them is ideal. Flaxseeds, an essential ingredient in these smoothies, contain soluble fiber which tends to absorb liquid and expand over time. This means your smoothie could turn into a thick, gel-like consistency if prepared too far in advance.
The best way to prep would be to combine all of the ingredients (except for liquids) and freeze them. Then take them out and blend with liquids.
Can I use frozen fruit in my smoothies?
Absolutely! Using frozen fruit in your Radical Smoothies is not only convenient, but it can also provide a thicker, creamier texture. Plus, it’s a great way to incorporate fruits that might be out of season. What’s more, many frozen fruits are picked at their peak ripeness and flash-frozen, so they can often be just as nutritious, if not more so, than their fresh counterparts. Just be sure to choose frozen fruits with no added sugars or preservatives to ensure you’re getting the most nutritional benefit.
I thought frozen foods are bad for fertility? Does it make the uterus cold?
No, the concept of frozen foods being detrimental to fertility largely originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which posits the idea of a “cold uterus.” This concept, however, is highly contextual, relating specifically to the culture and time period from which TCM originates.
Since I began teaching about fertility smoothies in 2007, I have found no evidence to suggest that a ‘cold uterus’ is a common issue for my clients. Indeed, the benefits of consuming nutrient-rich smoothies appear to far outweigh any transient temperature changes in the body that might result from consuming cold foods.
The temporary nature of these temperature changes shouldn’t have a lasting impact on your overall body temperature or fertility health. However, if you still have concerns, you can use fresh or thawed fruit in your smoothies so they won’t be as cold. The key focus should be on the nutritious ingredients in your smoothie and the beneficial impact they can have on your fertility.
I would like to lose weight, would these smoothies be good for me?
Absolutely, these smoothies can certainly be a beneficial part of your weight loss journey. They are packed with nutrient-dense fruits, vegetables, and seeds, which help you feel full and satisfied while supplying your body with the nutrients it needs.
For a comprehensive guide on how to naturally lose weight in a way that also optimizes your hormone health, keep an eye out for my soon to be published book The HormoneWise Diet: Weight Loss for Optimal Hormone Health. Can I drink these smoothies during pregnancy?
Absolutely, these Radical Smoothies can be an excellent part of a nutritious pregnancy diet. They are packed with whole foods and essential nutrients that both you and your growing baby need. Remember, though, that it’s also important to maintain a balanced diet overall during pregnancy, ensuring you’re getting a good variety of nutrients from different food sources. As always, if you have any concerns or specific dietary needs during your pregnancy, it’s best to consult with your healthcare provider.
