Is it Maca or Vitex, or Maca and Vitex?

Is it Maca or Vitex, or Maca and Vitex?

Question :
Your site is amazing.

I was wondering…I already take MACA, and I noticed the fertility kit contains Vitex. I was wondering if Vitex and Maca counteract each other, as they both balance hormones. I was told not to take 2 adaptogen herbs together, but it seems that you can according to your site. What is the recommended dosage for taking MACA and Vitex?

Thank you so very much for your time,

Hethir:
My thoughts on Maca is that first and foremost it is a food. It is eaten in Peru as a staple, not “supplemented” so adaptogen yes, but first it’s a food. So usually 1T. a day is recommended but some maca products are condensed so read the label. Vitex and Maca do not counteract each other, but compliment. Every herbalist is different in how they use herbs, see what your body says to you. With vitex, tincture or capsules are the best. Suggested usage is generally 60-90 drops 1x a day.

  1. Hello, I started taking Maca, and Vitex, after I discovered your website and I conceived immediately (I had been ttc for a year prior this). Later visits showed an empty sac, so I got a D & C. I have since added Dong Quai, Black Cohosh, Royal Jelly, a Prenatal Vitamin, CoQ10. Prior to these I was already taking a Prenatal Vitamin, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin D, E, Iron, Vitamin C and Magnesium. I just read about Myo and DCI, and I a considering adding those. Is it safe to be taking all these together? I have been trying to conceive for about two years now. I have two kids, which I had no difficulty conceiving. Thank you.

    • Hello!

Thanks for reaching out to us! I am very sorry for your loss!

Maca, and Vitex, Dong Quai, Black Cohosh, Royal Jelly, a Prenatal Vitamin, CoQ10, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamins D, C and E, Iron, and magnesium, Myo-Inositol and D-Chiro Inositol are all fine to take together, but a quality prenatal may have enough vitamins C and E, iron and magnesium unless you know you are deficient in these or need more for some reason. Do double check as this may help eliminate the number of supplements you take.

  2. Ive been doing a lot of research and have been to a fertility specialist. The doctor told me since I get my period once a month (although irregular cycles) I ovulate without any problems. I have a friend with a know hormone imbalance who had great success and regularity taking vitex. Im wondering if i should take it, even though it’s not confirmed whether my hormones or normal or not. Im also concerned of the side effects. I feel that if my period is irregular, then i must have some sort of imbalance right ? I also bought evening primrose. Also, we found out that my husbands sperm count is extremely low. Im considering having him take maca. Thank you for your help xo

    • Dear Justine,

Just because a woman has her period does not guarantee she ovulates each month. It’s likely ovulation happens, but not guaranteed.

The usual range of a healthy cycle is between 21 and 35 days, with menstruation lasting 3-5 days. Some women will have cycles that are very different from this, but as long as there is a pattern, regularity, a healthy body and the follicular phase is between 12-14 days there should be no cause for concern. A luteal phase should be at minimum 12 days. Given this, do you feel your cycles are still irregular. If so, it would be worth learning more about Vitex given what I know.

Then, do track ovulation. This is the best way to know your fertile window and see exactly when you ovulate. Learn more from our guide Detecting Ovulation: How to Get Accurate Results.

  3. I have fertility issues. My children are 7 years apart and I have done nothing to avoid pregnancy. In fact, I tried constantly in between each pregnancy. I have started taking a prenatal vitamin and maca. Is there anything else that I should be doing. I was diagnosed with PCOS and have been through fertility treatments, spending thousands of dollars to no avail. Please give me some insite to my troubles. Thanks in advance.

  4. Should I continue taking Maca if I have a fibroid?

    • Dear Dee,

Fertilica Maca is a nutrient-dense fertility superfood that can really be used by most men and women. It is not contraindicated for women with fibroids. If you are taking it and feel strongly about the benefits it has the potential to offer, it may be worth trying. It however is not all we suggest learning about for women with uterine fibroids. 5. I have very very lowm FSH and LH Hormones Can I take Vitex and Maca together. Is that they compliment each other. Please give me Positive feedback

  6. What dose of Maca in capsule should be taken per day?

    • Dear Yinka,

General suggested use of Fertilica Maca is 500-3000mg daily. It is always best to start with the lowest general dose and work up from there as needed.

  7. I have PCOS and I order vitex and tribulus to take together, I was wondering if I could also include maca?

  8. That’s good to know that maca and vitex don’t counteract each other!

  9. Hi, can I take vitex, maca 500, vitamin D and omega 3 fish oil together. I’ve been trying to conceive for about 2 years now. I’ve taking vitex for 6 weeks. I went through a whole bottle and I’m still not pregnant. I’ve been taking vitex and prenatal vitamin together. Should I do something different.

    • Dear Loudie,

I don’t know enough about you to suggest anything different. Vitex is known to be most effective at supporting the body’s ability to balance hormones when diet and lifestyle are optimal.

Do you have an underlying fertility health issue? Do you know when you ovulate so you can actively try to conceive during your fertile window?

  10. Hi
    I too was wondering the same. I seem to be taking a lot of supplements a day and would like to hear if they counteract each other. Reading your site I am now taking;
Bee proplis, Omega 3, Vitex, Milk thistle and a prenatal vitamin. I have endometriosis, so also trying to control that and my fertility.

    Thanks

    • This is a common concern, so thanks for asking!

Bee Proplis, an omega-3 supplement, Vitex, Milk Thistle seed and a prenatal multivitamin are all just fine to take together.
