Fertility Cleanse Questions Answered…

by Hethir Rodriguez, MH, CMT

Q: What type of foods should I eat during the Fertility Cleanse?

A: During the Fertility Cleanse it would be a good idea to begin your transition towards a fertility friendly diet. There are many resources on this site that will help you do just this:
The Fertility Diet
What to Eat While Fertility Cleansing
9 Simple Fertility Cleanse Diet Guidelines to Follow…

Q: Is meat ok to eat while on the Fertility Cleanse?

A: One thing that is unique about the Fertility Cleanse is that I created it to be a gentle cleanse that could be easily adapted to your lifestyle. The dietary suggestions while on the cleanse are not typically dramatic as many cleanses are. The focus of the Fertility Cleanse is to help your liver and uterus cleanse themselves and prepare the body for conception. This is a time of building nourishment and a healthy body without having to cut out major food groups. That being said I do think it would be beneficial to cut back on animal proteins to 4oz per serving (especially if you are experiencing endometriosis or PCOS) and make sure they are organic or/and free range/grass fed.

Q: Are there any side effects that I should be aware of while I am on the Fertility Cleanse?

A: I get asked this question quite a bit and have a couple of things to say. The first is to bring to light that the herbs in the Fertility Cleanse are whole herbs, which means they are not isolated or in any way similar to medications. There are some signs of cleansing that may show up such as moodiness from the cleansing effect on the liver and clots or tissues in the menstrual cycle following the cleanse that would come from the cleansing action of the cleanse (this is normal and healthy, you want this stuff to come out). If you follow the Fertility Cleanse instructions and drink plenty of water you should feel really good.

Yes, some people feel the effects of detoxification while cleansing which may show up as headaches and nausea. Make sure to drink plenty of water and get rest.

Hi Hethir,
Is the Fertility cleanse ok for me to take as I have no Gall bladder,Also I am allergic to bees does it contain anything derived from bees..
Thanks Donna-maree

Hi Donna,

The gallbladder releases stored bile from the liver to digest fatty food, becuase you no longer have a gallbladder your liver produces the bile and releases it directly, with less potency to emulsify the fats in the partially digested food. The Fertility Cleanse Kit contains a liver cleanse. The liver cleanse portion of the cleanse encourages liver health and hormonal balance. You may want to check with your doctor before deciding wheter or not to do a Fertility Cleanse. Make sure you drink plenty of water and get extra rest during this cleanse, you may want to aviod really fatty foods as well. The kit does not contain any bee products.

Best Wishes,

Dalene

hi i have just taken the fertility cleans and now my period is very light and have big clots coming when i go to the toilet, is that normal?

6 Dalene Barton, CH, Doula December 21, 2009

Hi Ingrid,

Yes it is normal to experience clotting. This is your body cleansing itself. Your period may be different than those in the past as your body is adjusting to the cleansing process.

Hello,
I am currently on Phase 2 of my fertility cleanse and was wondering if I should already be taking the Pregnancy Prep pills and Maca while on the cleanse or should I wait until my cleanse is over?

Thanks!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

You can begin the Maca, but wait until the cleanse is over to begin the Pregnancy Prep.

I just received my Fertility Cleanse kit and my period has been done for about 4 days can I start the cleanse now or should I wait til my next period to start the cleanse? Thanks for all the awesome information. You have been a blessing:)

Thanks,
Shannon

Hi Shannon,

For timing purposes it would be best to wait until your next cycle. It is best to begin the day after your period ends. You don’t have to wait, but it makes timing hard and you may not be able to complete all of the liver cleanse phase.

Warmly,

Dalene

I’m planning on going through IVF in a few months, maybe in April or May. Is it too soon to start or when is it recommended to beging the cleansing? Currently I’m taking some some teas from Omnilife, don’t know if you’ve heard of them, will this affect the result? Should I stop taking those and take yours?

14 Dalene Barton, CH, Doula February 7, 2010

Hi Yas,

We recommend to begin preparing for IVF at least 3 months before you begin your fertility medications. The life cycle of an egg is 90 days. This is the period of time during the eggs journey when what you eat, drink, ingest, breathe, your stress levels, and the health of your blood flow will all have an effect on the health of that egg. So what you eat today is impacting the egg you will ovulate or have “harvested” three months from now. So for best results prepare 90 days out.

We don’t recommend using any other herbal products during the Fertility Cleanse. I am not familiar with Omnilife.

Best Wishes,

Dalene

I’m midway through phase 1 of the Fertility Cleanse. Is it possible to ovulate earlier than normal while on the cleanse? I chart my BBT and fertility signs, and its possible I already ovulated. I’m usually day 15-17 for ovulation and this is day 12. Fertility signs were much earlier than normal this cycle. Any help?

Hi Diane,

Each woman’s body is very unique and adjusts to the cleansing process differently. Because your body is working to cleanse and change for the better it may have effected your cycle. The changes to your cycle and hormones are normal.

All the best,

Dalene

Hello!
I started the fertility cleansing last week wednesday 3/24. From the post that i read here, women seem to get some type of side effects from the cleaning. I, however, dont seem to be having any. Is that normal? the only thing I noticed is that I seem to be more tired than usual but im not sure if thats from the cleansing or just tired from work. I really want this cleansing to work and im really hoping it is working. Any insight? Thanks in advance. :)

18 Dalene Barton, CH, Doula March 31, 2010

Hi Nathalie,

Every woman’s body is different, some women experience no side effects from the cleansing. Most women who do experience side effects are usually not consuming enough water or getting enough rest. Sounds like you are doing great!

Best Wishes,

Dalene

Thank you for your prompt response. It makes me feel better that its ok that I dont have any symptoms. I just feel like im in a whirlwind. My husband and I want a baby so bad and I feel so helpless right now. I havent had a period since January 28th and its not April 1st :( I truly hope the fertility cleanse helps. Thanks again

Hello,
By this wednesda I will have completed 30 days of the fertility cleanse. To this day it had been 79 days since my last period. Should I expect my period to come soon after the cleanse is completed? Medically, i need a period by now because doesnt this put me at a higer risk for cervical cancer? Please advise because i am debating wether to call my obgyn or not. Thanks :)

21 Dalene Barton, CH, Doula April 19, 2010

Hi Nathalie,

Doing the Fertility Cleanse does not gurantee that you will get your period back. The Fertility Cleanse may help to create a foundation for balanced hormonal health. If you have had irregular periods for quite some time it may bee a good idea to see your doctor. Getting a diagnosis from your doctor may help you to make a plan of which direction you need to go to work toward balanced, healthy fertility. Please ask your doctor about Cervical Cancer, this is beyond my scope of practice, I am not a medical doctor. I have never heard that if you have missed your period for more than 79 days that you are more likely to get cervical cancer.

Best Wishes,

Dalene

22 Naji April 22, 2010

Hello,
I was wondering if during the fertility cleanse is it normal to experience swollen breasts and dark/lighten areolas. I am the last phase of my fertility cleanse, still did BD during my ovulation and few days later my breast were swollen. The swelling varies everyday. Just a little bit concerned.

Thank you

23 Dalene Barton, CH, Doula April 23, 2010

Hi Naji,

It sounds like your hormones are shifting and adjusting to the cleansing process. When we cleanse our bodies, excess hormones are dumped into our blood stream to be cleansed out through our skin, urine, ect.

Swollen breasts are also a sign of PMS or pregnancy.

Best Wishes,

Dalene
